Small Bites, Spanish inspired, El Tenedor’s Vegetable-Forward Spirit

Four colourful small plates including garlic shrimp, whipped sweet potato dip, marinated artichokes with olives, and parmesan crisps served at El Tenedor Restaurant Bar.

At El Tenedor Restaurant Bar, our Bites menu begins with inspiration from Spain, but it doesn’t stop there.

Across Spain, you’ll find bars where a few flavourful bites accompany a glass of wine, vermouth, sherry, or a cocktail. These small dishes are not meant to be a full meal. They are designed to spark conversation, awaken the palate, and create a moment of pleasure before dinner or alongside a drink.

We love that tradition.

But as with everything at El Tenedor, we interpret it through our own lens: a vegetable-forward philosophy, seasonal ingredients, and a commitment to creating dishes where every calorie has a purpose.

Spanish Inspiration, Reimagined

Traditional tapas often celebrate cured meats, fried dishes, and rich preparations. While we appreciate those roots, our kitchen takes a different path.

Our chef-driven approach asks a simple question:

How can we create the most flavour with the least excess?

The answer often starts with vegetables.

Artichokes, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, peppers, legumes, herbs, and seasonal produce frequently become the stars of the plate. Animal proteins appear where they add character and depth, not simply because tradition expects them.

The result is a collection of bites that feel vibrant, balanced, and surprisingly satisfying despite their modest size.

Small Dishes with Big Flavour

Our Bites menu is designed for guests enjoying a cocktail after work, meeting friends for a glass of wine, or beginning an evening in Yorkville or Rosedale.

Each dish is intentionally small, allowing you to explore different flavours without committing to a large plate.

You might start with:

  • Artichoke, yougurt cheese and candied orange
  • Manchego cheese, avocado and tomato
  • Marinated eggplant, seasoned olives, almonds
  • Garlic Shrimp
  • Smoked carrot hummus

Every Calorie Has a Purpose

At El Tenedor, we believe indulgence and thoughtful eating can coexist.

Our dishes are built around flavour, texture, and satisfaction rather than excess. Ingredients are selected because they contribute something meaningful to the final experience.

  • A roasted vegetable brings sweetness.
  • A herb adds freshness.
  • A cultured dairy brings richness.
  • A touch of truffle honey creates contrast.
  • Nothing is there simply to fill space on the plate.

This philosophy allows us to create dishes that feel both generous and balanced, delivering maximum flavour in a small format.
